Prison Program...

The RPSM Correctional Companion Program began a partnership with the Florence Crane and Lakeland Correctional Facilities in Coldwater, MI, in an effort to find homes for dogs in shelters that would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of homes.

Dogs selected for the Companion Program are carefully screened for temperament, trainability, and adoptability. They are fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered prior to enrollment in the program.  Once they arrive at the facility, they are assigned to inmates who will be responsible for their training and day to day care. Upon completion of the program, the dog will be ready to receive a Canine Good Citizen Certificate (CGC) and be available for adoption into an approved home.  For more info:  rpsm_us@yahoo.com

David writes...

In the most unexpected place. An environment known for cruelty and heartlessness, these rescued dogs enter prison only to find tenderness and affection. Often times the inmates, so very much like the rescued dogs, are all too familiar with a life of abuse and neglect, thus in some way empathize with these helpless animals unable to fend for themselves.

These “broken” men reach out their hearts to the “broken” dogs and something wonderful transpires. They both begin to heal! Like digging a priceless gem from an ugly stone, the personalities of these dogs begin to emerge. Fear is replaced by confidence, uncertainty cedes to self assurance, and mistrust is substituted by affection.

Win! Win!
